Work Injury Compensation UAE
The UAE has clear laws to protect workers who suffer injuries. Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 and recent amendments set out employer responsibilities and employee rights.
Employers must provide medical care, paid leave, and financial compensation in case of disability or death.
- Medical Treatment: Employers must pay for all necessary medical care, including hospital expenses and rehabilitation.
- Paid Leave: Employees receive full wages for up to six months during recovery. If the injury requires a longer recovery, they get half-pay for another six months.
- Disability Compensation: Workers with permanent total disability receive a lump sum equal to 24 months of basic salary, capped between AED 18,000 and AED 200,000. Those with partial disability receive a percentage of this amount based on the severity of the injury.
- Death Compensation: If an employee dies due to a work injury, their family gets compensation equal to 24 months’ basic salary, within the same AED 18,000 – 200,000 limit.
- Claim Process: Employers must report work injuries to the authorities within 48 hours. Employees can file claims through the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE). Employers must pay compensation within 10 days of receiving the medical report confirming the injury.
- Employer Liability: Failure to provide compensation can result in fines of up to AED 1,000,000. Companies that do not follow safety regulations may also face legal action.
